City of Cape Town Film Tariffs - 4 August 2010 (Issued by the CT Film Permit Office)
The City of Cape Town has approved the following Film Tariffs for 2010/11. These tariffs will be applicable from 1st July 2010 - 30th June 2011.
In order to continue to support the industry and the industry competitiveness, the tariffs are as follows:
Location Tariffs - We are pleased to confirm that tariffs for city owned locations continue to be reduced by 100% - i.e. no charge. Exceptions are for filming at the locations administered by the Bulk Water Department and at City Nature reserves where over and above the stipulate entrance fee, a conservation levy will be charged for permissible commercial activity.
Please note the following:
In terms of the City's By-Law relating to Filming (2005) - ALL film shoots on or utilising Council land film-related activity requires a film permit. Please ensure that a permit is applied for in terms of the City's Film By-law and procedures.
The City requests that the continued reduction in film location tariffs be used positively by the industry to achieve inter alia: the intended goals of promoting the industry and Cape Town as a film destination and for much needed skills development in the industry.
The City will continue to monitor the implementation and impact of this reduction on the use of city locations, e.g. "block booking" of locations, overuse/abuse of various film locations, as well as on affected communities.
We appeal and trust that all in the industry will work positively with this continued tangible and very direct benefit to the industry of reduced tariffs request your full cooperation in this regard.
Parking and Services TariffsParking and Services tariffs relating to film activity have been revised for the 2010-11 financial year and have increased in some respects - please see the schedule.
The Film Permit Office has not been successful in motivating the retention of the 2009/10 tariff rates for parking and other services such as Traffic and Metro Police. In the current constrained financial climate, these City Services have been unable to absorb the actual/subsidised costs differential (especially in respect of overtime costs),in order to retain the previous subsidies to the film industry without passing these on to ratepayers.Thank you for your support during season 2009-10 and we look forward to a good season in 2010-11.
We are planning to hold pre-season briefing session/s, at this stage set for October 2010. You will be informed of the details regarding these sessions in due course and request that you make every effort to attend please.
Please also look out for communication in due course with regard to the following:
- updating of Company details and Indemnity forms for 2010/11;
- launch of the Online Film Location Booking System
